Day out in the Big Smoke

Visited a couple of galleries/museums over the bank holiday weekend including the Victoria and Albert museum and the Saatchi gallery on the King's Road. Always love going to the V and A - they had a digital show "Decode - Digital Design Sensations" which showcased lots of interactive displays. I managed to get some really lovely fabric from the V and A shop - inspired by vintage fabrics dating back from the 1700's. Very pleased!

Last year I visited the MADE craft fair in Brighton I saw some really amazing work, including embroidered and printed textiles by Maxine Sutton. Lovely Little House

Lovely Little House iPod/iPhone sleeve made from 100% wool felt (what else?), with appliqued and embroidered pin striped house with a wooden fence, lampost and bright green beads for grass. A perfect snug fit for an iPod classic or iPhone, great for keeping your goodies scratch free.

It's been too long since I have spent some quality time with my blog.......Feeling slightly guilty about the neglect! Here are some pictures of some new pieces I worked on last weekend. iPhone sleeves with "tweet" design on the front. They are decorated with a little floral wooden button.

Went for a lovely walk along the seafront today and made the most of the bright blue sky, taking lots of photos of the beach huts on the esplanade. A little bit of an obsession with beach huts I think!

Heart Felt Pouch - finished today. I used some of my new buttons which I bought on etsy. They took a while to arrive but was well worth the wait!

So chuffed to have 2 weeks off work! It gives me time to do some creative stuff and also eat lots of cream teas and explore the local flea market in Kemp Town, which was full of lovely bits and bobs. Could have spent a lot longer in there if it weren't for the fact that I was dragging my poor boyfriend around. Oh dear!

Saturday afternoon was spent mooching around Brighton's Design and Craft Fair - MADE 2009. I was absolutely blown away by the work there. Every stall was exquisite and so inspiring. The exhibition had a broad spectrum of mediums, including textiles, ceramics, knitting, glass, wire work sculptures, jewellery and vintage reclaimed artwork. A few of my favourites from the day included Hanne Rysgaard, Paola McClure, Quietly Eccentric, Maxine Sutton, The Black Rabbit, Gillian Bates, Lauren Van Helmond and Fiona Howard.

I have been so busy doing other things that I have neglected my blog somewhat. On a quiet Sunday evening i'm finding a few minutes to upload some new pictures! Feeling very inspired by the Brighton Art Fair at the Corn Exchange today. Saw some fantastic pieces of work - including Samantha Bryan's mixed media faries, Moose Allain's detailed ink drawings, Lou Trigg's lovely hand and machine embroidered works to name just a few of my favourites from the day.

Very excited about my new arrival of grey felt, and starting to make lots of lovely felty purses and cases. My recent creations are the sunglasses case and tweet pouches - 2 of which I have sold already! It's really easy to work with, especially for machine embroidery and hand embroidery.

Another find on etsy - take a few minutes to check out her etsy shop, Michelle Brusegaard designs and creates cards, scarves, calenders, stationary and many more beautifully crafted items. She uses screenprinting techniques combined with photography and other mixed media. Definitely one of my current favourites!

I really like the embroidery work of rosaechocolat. Found on Flickr. I especially like the embroidery hoops - so lovely!

These mice are adorable. So cute - I just had to share them with you! Each one is hand crafted by Shelley Rodgers "the beauty is in the detail". Her shop is on Not On The Highstreet.com.

Another etsy find! I keep on finding so many great craftspeople, artists, and designers on etsy. Jane Foster makes these fantastic cats using vintage fabrics, and is inspired by Scandinavian design.

I have recently discovered the charming work of PrinceDesign UK. I love her designs! My favourites are the little ceramic birds.

Some of my favourites at the moment are these prints by Julia Pott. I really love her style of illustration and animation. They are quirky, fun, and imaginitive.......

Also really loving the work of penguin and fish. Based in Minneapolis, Alyssa makes plushies of cats, horses, unicorns and also makes sketchbooks and embroidery patterns. Her shop is on etsy.

Ice Cream Cutie

100% wool felt ice cream pouch embellished with an embroidered ice cream parlour design (above left). I have used pastel pink and red beads, and a bright red button for decoration. This is an ideal pouch for an iPod, digital camera, jewellery, MP3 player, iPhone....... It comes fully lined with patterned cotton.
Sail away (above right) is also made from 100% wool felt with embroidered sailing boat design on the front. It has a button closure on the back, and is fully lined with bright red fabric. I use mine to keep my digital camera safe and scratch free but can be used for keeping your iPod or MP3 player cosy.

Welcome to suezybees blogspot. I am a designer/maker living in Hove, East Sussex. My work is inspired by my surroundings - trees, flowers, birds, houses, beach huts and ice cream parlours. I use mainly felt in my work, embellishing with print, embroidery, applique, buttons and beads. Living near Brighton means that I am constantly creatively inspired, especially by all the lovely little independant shops and galleries. One of my favourites is Castor and Pollux, which is located under the arches on the sea front. Perfect!

These are a couple of new designs which I have recently put in my etsy shop. They are made from 100% wool felt, and are a perfect home for an MP3 player or iPod nano.
